Serpentine hiking trail to Betten village
One thing must be said here: the distant view over the Valais mountains is sensational and the Maiensässe give you a really rustic feeling. And anyway: holidays are holidays! A change of scenery is called for with the right view of fun and relaxation. So even though there is no snow on some of the winter hiking trails, I would still like to introduce you to the hiking trail from Bettmeralp to Betten Dorf. The next winter is sure to come!
Hiking trail to Betten Dorf
The serpentine path begins at the Bettmeralp mountain station cable car and runs along the lower village path down towards Ried to Domo and then Breiten to Egga. In a winter with lots of snow, people like to take this easy tour by sledge. (I have already presented an alternative toboggan run.) Wonderful, is all I can say! Downhill at breakneck speed and catch a glimpse of the old "Hischini" in between. This year you can walk this trail on dry ground, with the advantage of being able to look at the Maiensässe in peace and quiet and imagine what life must have been like in the Valais in those days. In Betten village, you board the cable car again and travel "home".
Alpine Museum of the Aletsch Aren
If you are interested, why not visit the Alpine Museum in Riederalp? It's only open during the hiking season, but you'll have a reason to experience the Valais mountains from a different perspective. Maybe you'll come across the Aletsch with its beautiful hiking trails next late summer?
