Extended weekend at the Aletsch
Looking back at September and October this year, it really hasn't been a consistent hiking season. But this week the sun is shining like crazy.
Enjoy the autumn once again
Fog at home? Not so in the Upper Valais. When the weather is perfect, it's worth making a last-minute decision to head to the mountains and spend a cosy weekend over the first of November in pleasant daytime temperatures. It's true, it's mid-season and most of the restaurants in the Aletsch Arena are closed. But the supermarket is open. So what's stopping you from enjoying your free time in addition to the beautiful mountain scenery?
Cosy evenings for two
The mid-season is perfect for couples who just want some peace and quiet. Simply time for two. Have a leisurely breakfast in the morning and then go for a hike. In the evening, light up the fire and review the day's hike over a glass of wine and a raclette or fondue. Making the most of your holiday flat by cooking together in the evening and spending time together. That's my idea of slowing down.
Cooking quick meals
What do you take with you to eat if you want to cater for yourself? Eat Swiss food. It's quick: of course, raclette, fondue cheese and a Valais white wine should be on the shopping list. My suggestion for 4 evenings: 1x fondue, 1x polenta with sausage, 1x raclette and 1x Älpler macaroni. Then you leave happy - with impressions of the Valais mountains and filled with Swiss cheese.
