CIRCULAR HIKE RIEDERALP MOUNTAIN STATION TOWARDS CHATZULECHER

The thing is: Rules are there to make life easier for people. Actually! Sometimes it also makes life more difficult, because some people have problems defining the degree of difficulty, physical condition and length of hiking tours. I am one of them. That's why I like to shorten the walking distance depending on the length, in order to spare my knees and hips. As an average hiker, I like to walk around 3 hours and accept short steep stretches or scree paths. The hike from the Moosfluh mountain station to the Chatzulechern is one such hike. You can also do it very well as a circular hike with start and end at the Riederalp mountain station. There are several combinations, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter.

Path to the Chatzulecher

The trail is signposted from View Moosfluh. Walk straight ahead along the ridge path in the direction of Bettmeralp until you reach the junction on the left. Steadily downhill, but not steeply, the trail becomes stony at times and a walking stick would not be bad for balancing. Miniscus is all I can say...

Take fitness level into consideration

After a good hour and a half, the path divides again. That's good, because depending on your fitness, you have several options from here on:

Firstly, you continue to walk downhill along the path that eventually leads to the chat rooms. You have to walk back along this path. This last section, including the return, takes another hour. Secondly: You decide to turn around and walk the whole way back or take the turnoff towards Bettmeralp on the way. Thirdly: You walk on like we did at the fork in the road towards Riederfurka and skip the Chatzulecher. You can't do anything wrong at the moment anyway, the autumn colours are intoxicating, the view of the Aletsch Glacier is a dream and you can still see the small lakes shimmering through the trees, even if you haven't been there.

Hiking route towards Riederfurka and Villa Cassel

On the hiking trail through the Aletsch forest towards Riederfurka, you will find two Pro Natura Aletsch Centre signposts along the way. The upper hiking trail to the Pro-Natura-Aletsch-Centre should be somewhat shorter. And why not stop off at the Villa Cassel for a break? Once again a reason to feast on homemade cake.

Und ich hocke ob der Flüe, wärde still und gniess die Rüeh.
