Important things to know when buying a ski pass

Höhenweg Moosfluh - Riederfurka

Winter is sending its first greeting. It’s punctual! For the hiking season ends this week. This prompts me to write about ski passes, as it does every year. These days, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re planning to hit the slopes. And this year, I’d like to highlight two points to consider when booking your ski holiday: one concerns your children, and the other relates to when your ski ticket is actually activated.

Book the connecting train separately

Keep in mind that you will need to use the feeder lift to reach the ski area at the start and end of your holiday. Therefore, for stays lasting several days, book only the ski pass (excluding the feeder lift) and purchase separate, one-off tickets for your arrival and departure days (one for the trip up to the ski area and one for the return journey).

Error messages during booking – New SwissPass

If you receive an error message regarding your SwissPass while booking online, please check whether the information for your SwissPass is still up to date. Otherwise, remove the SwissPass from your ticket holder profile and re-enter your details.

The ski ticket validation for 4 hours

The 4-hour ticket is valid for 4 hours from the moment you pass through the first turnstile at a ski facility—this applies even if you have also purchased access to the feeder lift. In other words, your time only begins once you pass through a turnstile for your first ride.

Book family passes

If you have more than 3 children, the third child (and any subsequent children) can travel for free until their 16th birthday. From the day of their 16th birthday onwards, the third child is no longer eligible for free travel.

Please ensure that the correct order is followed when booking ski passes: first the parents, then teenagers aged 16 and older, and finally children aged 6 and older. Ski tickets for children under 6 must be purchased at the ticket counter. The SBB Junior Travelcard cannot be used in conjunction with a ski pass or a seasonal/annual pass that includes access to the mountain transport (cable car/lift).

Care Voucher for Babysitters

As previously mentioned, your ski pass will be activated the moment you pass through a turnstile in the ski area. Therefore, if you have booked your "caregiver ticket" (Betreuungsticket) via the online shop, it is essential that both babysitters visit one of the Aletsch Bahnen AG sales points *before* this activation takes place, in order to have a joint photograph taken.

Any questions? Please visit the Aletsch Arena website or, even better, give a call. You can find the phone numbers at the bottom of the website.
