Winter hiking with a view of the Valais mountains

Enjoying the weather

At the moment the sun is shining for all it's worth. You have to take advantage of this, because the view of the Valais mountains is unbeatable on the hiking trail from Fiescheralp to Riederalp. The hike is easy to do in winter as well as in summer. The view in winter includes an additional bonus - snow-covered mountain landscapes.

Family excursion or day tour

The starting point is the Fiescheralp, because from there you walk in a southerly direction, so you have the sun in your face with a view of the 4000-metre peaks. Destinations are Riederalp or Bettmeralp. If you have stamina, you can make a day trip out of it, because there are other winter hiking trails from Riederalp and Bettmeralp, also in the direction of Fiescheralp.

Those who prefer to make a family excursion out of it, perhaps with an older person or children, finish their hike at Bettmeralp with its numerous inns. The trail then takes about one and a half hours and offers a super-beautiful view of the snow-covered mountains. In good weather, you can see the Mischabel group, Weisshorn and Matterhorn. The route is laid out in such a way that after three quarters of an hour you pass the Bättmer-Hitta for a break with a good lunch or coffee and cake. If you don't have much time and don't feel like it, you can walk back along the upper winter hiking trail to Fiescheralp.

From the Bättmer-Hitta, the path becomes somewhat steeper. First it goes uphill to Wurzenbord and then steadily downhill towards Bettmeralp. If you have your children with you, why not sledge part of the way together with them? You can find the detailed description with duration, trail length and altitude here.
