That's why I'm writing about the Belalp - Riederalp suspension bridge today. Some experienced hikers may now be wondering what the challenge is. But not all hikers are the same. And the route is certainly challenging. Firstly, you need to be able to handle suspension bridges, the associated swaying and the height with ease. And secondly, the duration of the hike is not to be sneezed at, as it takes between 4.5 and 5 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aletscharena.ch\/en\/activities\/tour\/from-riederalp-over-the-suspension-bridge-to-belalp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">directions given<\/a> start at Riederalp. We started from Belalp, which is why I am only specifying the challenges.<\/p>\n<h3>Good footwear required<\/h3>\n<p>It is best to take the old cable car up to the Belalp mountain station. Then the path on the right to the Hotel Belalp\/Aletschbord is a little shorter than with the cable car. The real start is at the Aletschbord with a steep descent. Once this is behind you, the rest of the trail is more or less flat terrain and forest. The trail leads downhill over rocky terrain to the suspension bridge. As the rock is really slippery depending on the weather, wear good hiking boots. If you like suspension bridges as much as I do, don't think twice and pass quickly. On the other hand, the ascent is exciting. Just don't look down.<\/p>\n<h3>Break at Gr\u00fcnsee and Villa Cassel<\/h3>\n<p>How about a break at Gr\u00fcnsee lake? Have a picnic and relax. Afterwards you hike steadily uphill through the <a href=\"https:\/\/ferienchalet-wallis.ch\/en\/der-aletschwald\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aletsch forest<\/a>where you may see mountain chamois and enjoy this natural forest. At the end of your hike, you will be standing in front of Villa Cassel. My tip: stop for a bite to eat and enjoy some homemade cake.<\/p>\n<p>This hike is now also possible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aletscharena.ch\/en\/planning-booking\/offers-experiences\/offer\/night-hike-bettmeralp-belalp?utm_content=87017512&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz--aGZhiEthdV8EKI06nMqjJ4wEtNCVvXAKgHzbuTa387AJ3H5yvIu9io1-Urfz2JmejeQiH1rBG66FxAmjUbHOgJF-CRw&amp;_hsmi=87017512&amp;cHash=54e9a75fe874ef00007070ac6d4d1a7d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at night with a mountain guide.<\/a> As a lowland Tyrolean, I was pretty knackered at the end.
