Alternatives to Skiing & Co.
What can you say? Winter starts off wonderfully with the snow of November 2025, and then it's just sun, sun, sun. That's not how they envisioned it in Valais. The order should have been the other way around. Well, at least a proper dose of snow is supposed to arrive from Thursday onwards.
Anyway, over the holidays I was thinking about what to do when the snow is slow to arrive. What do you do when there just won't be any snow and you live right in the middle of the Alps? Especially since I don't have to go skiing if the amount of snow isn't to my liking. However, if you happen to be spending your winter holidays at that time and don't want to ski down the same slopes every day, it would be good to have some alternatives.
Winter hikes in the Aletsch Arena with a visit to a mountain hut
I think every ski holiday should include a winter hike. It's a 9 km hike from Fiescheralp to Riederalp, one way. So, if you've had your fill of sunshine, what's wrong with really working up a sweat? Take a look under the "Winter" winter category on the blog. Or check out "Mountain Hut Experiences", because breaks in mountain huts are truly unique. And you should definitely try a Cholera cake, or perhaps a slice of cream cake – it's simply divine.
Viewpoints of the Aletsch Arena
This is the ultimate tip in the region for enjoying a fantastic view of the Aletsch Glacier. Riederalp even offers two viewing platforms, one from the Moosfluh and one from the Hohfluh. Why not check out the View Point Package and combine it with musical entertainment, for example at the Hohfluh viewpoint, for details look under the point nearby - event.
And what if it really snows? Then make yourself comfortable at home, finally read that book on your Kindle, do a wasgij puzzle or cook something together. Have you bought Fendant and raclette cheese yet?
