Hiking is not just a joy for the miller (german folk song); it is a passion driven by the desire to experience nature and gain self-awareness. At the end of the day, one feels a sense of happiness—satisfaction with the day’s achievements and a pleasant, soothing weariness. This might involve a leisurely walk along the *Suonen* (historic irrigation channels) or a challenging trek across steep rocky slopes. Speaking of steep terrain: it can also boost self-confidence, as one views a difficult section as a challenge—and successfully masters it nonetheless.

Hike for families

Here is what I mean by that: for instance, a trail along an irrigation channel, where there are generally no steep sections to tackle. Children love water, so walking alongside it is fun for them, too. Or a trail that offers entertainment for children along the way—like a "Foxtrail". You can build anticipation by making the destination appealing—for example, by highlighting the wooden marble runs. You found them at Riederfurka, Bettmerhitta, Bettmerhorn and Moosfluh.

Challenging hikes of up to 5 hours

Most people define "challenging" as a difficult or long route. For me personally, it means taking the physical aspect into account: 5 hours are more than enough. On some days, this means offering something to the mind and the eyes—such as a phenomenal view or a spectacular trail. Mind over matter!!

Sunday Hikes

Sunday hikes are of this nature: you want some exercise, but at a leisurely pace, please. Ideally with a place to stop for refreshments along the wayUnder no circumstances should you be out for hours on end; the goal is for both the child and the dog to enjoy the experience. On hikes—or rather, extended walks—like these, the focus is more on socializing or simply enjoying the moment.

Autumn is approaching. It is time to pay another visit to the Aletsch Glacier and the Aletsch Forest.
